🍂 South Falls drops 177 feet into a mossy canyon in the Silver Falls State Park, and in October the maples around it turn gold while the mist hangs in the trees.

At more than 9,000 acres, this is the largest state park in Oregon. The famous Trail of Ten Falls loops past ten waterfalls, and four of them, South Falls, Lower South Falls, Middle North Falls and North Falls, have rock alcoves behind the water so you can walk right behind the curtain of the falls. 💦

The park was set up in 1935 as a Recreational Demonstration Area, and Civilian Conservation Corps crews built much of the original infrastructure, including the historic South Falls Lodge, which was finished in the late 1930s. It sits only about 25 miles from Salem in the Willamette Valley foothills.
