Kayaks, canoes and SUPs are available for rent, as well as pontoon boat rental, trails and 2 sandy beaches for swimming & more. Wednesday Wildlife Wisdom: The Great Identity Crisis at Milford Lake!
We all know the iconic look of a majestic Bald Eagle: stark white head, brilliant white tail, and a sharp yellow beak. But if you've ever glanced out over the water at Milford Lake and spotted a massive raptor that looks entirely dark brown or speckled with chaotic patches of white, don't second-guess your bird identification skills!
Here’s a fun nature fact: Young bald eagles don't get their famous white feathers until they are roughly 4 to 5 years old!
When they first leave the nest, juvenile eagles are completely dark chocolate brown with dark beaks. As they grow, year by year, they go through an awkward teenager phase—growing mottled white splotches on their bellies, smoky grey-brown masks around their eyes, and patchy tail feathers before finally earning that pristine white crown of adulthood.
It's a great reminder that true maturity takes time, patience, and a whole lot of growing into yourself.
