The Beekman, A Thompson Hotel

The Beekman, A Thompson Hotel Nestled in the epicenter of Lower Manhattan’s vibrant new downtown lays New York’s last hidden architectural treasure, The Beekman.
(2986)

Built in 1881 as one of Manhattan’s first skyscrapers, the heart of this iconic landmark building is its extraordinary nine-story Victorian atrium and majestic pyramidal skylight. Under the stewardship of Gerner Kronick + Valcarcel, Architects, the property was restored to its past glory and converted into The Beekman, a Thompson Hotel. Opened in September 2016, The Beekman unites some of the worl

d’s greatest talent, combining the sophisticated interior design of Martin Brudnizki with the culinary cachet of restaurateur and Chef Tom Colicchio.

The Beekman is our love letter to New York—a home where the spirit of the city is celebrated and every traveler, whether local or visiting from around the world, is welcomed.

Every detail whispers, we’ve been expecting you, while the architecture invites discovery and creates moments that stay with you long after you leave.

Just months after opening its doors, The Beekman graced the cover of Travel + Leisure’s celebrated “It List” issue, recognizing the best new hotels of the year.

In episode seven of our 10th anniversary docuseries, Jacqui Gifford, Editor-in-Chief of Travel + Leisure, reflects on the first time she walked through our doors—and the impression The Beekman left on her.

When love and skill work together expect a masterpiece.

When Martin Brudnizki first stepped inside The Beekman, the building spoke to him, whispering, “Don’t make me into something that I am not”. In that moment, he knew he would not be reinventing its story, but rather carefully restoring and celebrating the building that already existed.

From the carpets that grace the front desk to the thoughtfully selected furnishings in each guestroom, and the countless intentional details woven throughout the hotel, every detail was chosen with purpose. Martin created a sense of discovery at every turn, allowing the building’s rich history to remain the hero.

In episode five of our 10th anniversary docuseries, Martin takes us through the design journey of The Beekman, sharing his philosophy of honoring the past while thoughtfully shaping spaces for the future.
