Port Aransas Beach Wildlife Spotting! 🏖️🐦
Look who was strutting down the shore today right here in Port Aransas! The tall, leggy bird walking past the gulls is a Juvenile Reddish Egret (Egretta rufescens).
Here is why this is such a special find for our local coast:
• A True Texas Treasure: Port Aransas and the surrounding Texas coast host the largest breeding population of Reddish Egrets in the United States, where they are protected as a state-threatened species.
• The Youth Uniform: While the adults have flashy cinnamon-pink heads and blue-gray bodies, the youngsters stay a uniform dusty-gray with a completely dark bill. As this bird matures, the base of its bill will change to a bright, vibrant pink!
• The "Canopy" Dance: If you watch them fish in the local shallows, they look like they are dancing. They run sideways and fling their wings out like an umbrella to shade the water, which tricks fish into swimming underneath them and blocks the harsh Texas sun glare.
The smaller birds hanging out in the background are our classic Port A Laughing Gulls sporting their white-and-gray winter plumage.

Thinking about getting away to the beach this summer? Send us a PM to see how you can book our beautiful condo in Port Aransas Texas! Less than a mile from the beach, close to all the shops, restaurants and bars. Walking distance to the nature preserve where you can ride your bike on the trails or take a stroll. Make sure and take your camera though as tourists come in from all over just to bird watch in this famous area!
Master suite with king bed and work desk, guest bedroom that sleeps 5, guest bathroom, full kitchen, washer/dryer, private porch over looking the nature preserve and corpus christie bay. Need room for more, we have info for that as well!
