A legacy and an icon! 🦋

🏔️💔 The Smoky Mountains lost a piece of their heart today.

Dolly Parton was so much more than a country music legend. She was a daughter of the Smokies — a little girl from Sevier County who carried these mountains with her everywhere she went and, in turn, brought the world back home to East Tennessee.

From her music and storytelling to Dollywood and the millions of books placed into the hands of children through her Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, Dolly never forgot where she came from. She showed generations of people that you could dream bigger than the mountains around you without ever leaving your roots behind.

For those of us who love the Smokies, it is difficult to imagine them without Dolly. Her fingerprints are everywhere — in the music, the stories, the generosity, the laughter and the unmistakable spirit of this place.

Tonight, the mountains feel a little quieter.

Rest peacefully, Dolly. Thank you for loving these mountains and their people so fiercely, and for sharing a little piece of them with the entire world.

You will always be our Smoky Mountain girl. 🦋🏔️
