"Un magnifique endroit !" The translation: "A magnificent place!" This is how Sebastian, from France, describes his Tucson stay, "An exceptional location at the foot of the mountains! A beautiful resort; the gardens are a magnificent showcase of Arizona flora, and the property retains an intimate feel. We enjoyed the pool near our accommodation (there are three!). Our room (Sonoran) was spacious and very comfortable. We opted for the breakfast package and thoroughly enjoyed it every morning. Finally, a big thank you to the particularly friendly staff (our server Cortney), with a special mention for Steve at the restaurant entrance in the morning—always a smile and a kind word (we’ll be thinking of him during the Tour de France 😉)! A perfect stay! We would have loved to stay longer…"

Nous avons profité de la piscine proche de notre hébergement (il y en a 3 !). Notre chambre (Sonoran) était grande et très confortable. Nous avions pris l’option petit déjeuner et nous nous sommes régalés tous les matins. Enfin merci au personnel particulièrement sympathique (notre serveuse Cortney) avec une mention spéciale pour Steve à l’accueil du restaurant le matin : toujours le sourire et un petit mot gentil (on pensera à lui pour le Tour de France 😉) ! Hacienda del Sol opened in 1929 as one of the Southwest’s most exclusive private schools for girls only! Students included daughters of Vanderbilt, Pillsbury, and Westinghouse families—a deliberate attempt to lure wealthy East Coast families to Tucson. It wasn’t just education—it was part real estate marketing strategy to build winter estates in Tucson’s foothills.
👉 Most locals know that we're “historic,” but not that the resort starting out as a luxury boarding school for America’s elite.

🔥 A devastating fire reshaped the entire property. In 1938, a massive fire nearly destroyed the campus.
The rebuild brought in legendary architect Josias Joesler, whose signature Southwestern style defines the resort today. If you step into the library at Hacienda del Sol resort (next to the lobby), some ceiling beams were hand-carved from Mount Lemmon timber by the owner herself.
👉 The authentic look people admire today is actually the result of a dramatic near-loss.

🎬 We were a quiet Hollywood hideaway—with real romance rumors! After becoming a guest ranch in the 1940s, it attracted famous Classic movie stars like: John Wayne, Bing Crosby, Lana Turner, and Katharine Hepburn. Guests can even stay in the same rooms. A persistent (and juicy) rumor: Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn’s romance deepened here.
👉 It wasn’t just a place to stay back then; it was part of the Old Tucson film ecosystem during Hollywood’s Western era.
