Some of the best memories begin with something simple: a cottage, a summer day, and time together.

A father and his two sons on Lake Erie. Fishing lines in the water. Stories being told. Maybe a few fish to bring home or throw back and a lifetime of memories being made.

This is what we love about the cottages. For generations, families have come here to slow down, spend time together, and create traditions that become part of their family story.

There’s something special about seeing a monarch butterfly resting in the garden at the end of summer. Each year, thousands of monarchs make their way south along the shores of Lake Erie and Vermilion is an important stop along their journey.

Our gardens, green spaces, and lake breezes provide food, rest, and shelter for these incredible travelers.

At the Cottages at the Water’s Edge, we love knowing that our little corner of Lake Erie can be a welcoming place for butterflies—and all the beauty that comes with them.

We left a little piece of Dolly downtown Vermilion.

While enjoying an evening at the Old Prague in downtown Vermilion, we decided the bar’s already colorful collection of drawings and messages needed a little more Dolly.

So we added her.

It got us thinking about one of the things we love most about staying in Vermilion—the little moments that aren’t planned. A night downtown. A favorite local spot. A drink with friends. A spontaneous bit of creativity that becomes part of the place.

When you stay at Cottages at the Water’s Edge, you’re close enough to downtown to wander out and make a few memories of your own.
