Thank you to everyone who has reached out to check on us following Hurricane Lala. We are all doing well, and our thoughts are with those in our community who have been more severely impacted.

We did sustain damage to one of our units, which is currently closed, but the rest of Volcano Village Estates is open, and we are continuing to welcome guests.

Here is a small thing that changes a whole trip. No dining room, no set time, no rushing the kids out the door. A favorite Hilo stop, and a perfect rainy-day plan. The Lyman Mission House is the oldest wood-frame building on the Big Island, built in 1839 from koa and ohia wood. Next door, the Smithsonian-affiliated museum covers Hawaiian culture, plantation history, and volcanoes, plus a stunning collection of minerals and shells. About 45 minutes from us. You will need to call ahead for tour times, but it's one to put on your list of places to visit while in Hawaii.
