We already know July 4th this year is extra special this year. America turns 250, and the village is putting on the Cooper Center parade like always. Parade starts at the Volcano Post Office at 9 a.m. and rolls down to the Cooper Center. There are food vendors, kids' games, music, and a silent auction. The 4th lands on a Saturday this year, so it's a full long weekend. If you're thinking about it, this is the time to check availability.

One of our guests' favorite things about staying in Volcano Village is Sunday morning at Cooper Center. Local farmers set up tables with seasonal produce, Big Island honey, baked goods, jewelry, soap, and almost always something you didn't know you needed. It's a short drive from the lodge and a good way to start a Sunday before heading into the park. If you're with us this weekend, we're happy to point you in the right direction.

Sunday, June 14, is Flag Day, and Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park is waiving its $30 vehicle fee for the day. Good chance to drive Crater Rim, walk a short trail, or take in the overlooks without paying at the gate.
