There's nothing like an Appalachian Halloween. It's not possible to go neighborhood trick or treating when you live in a holler. Instead, everyone comes to town. From miles around. West Jefferson attracts thousands of trick or treaters with some of the wildest, most colorful costumes you'll ever see. Here's some pictures from a most unusual Halloween tradition.

Wow! The response to our Mahjong post yesterday about hosting some events blew us away. This is a popular idea. The hotel team is going to meet and come up with plans to get this on the schedule. It will be more than just one event. Stay tuned and Thankyou!

Hello Mahjong players!

We're considering organizing a Mahjong event this coming winter at the Old Hotel. Maybe a couple of days of play in our sunny Paddy Mountain Room and Purple Ballroom, plus special meals from Chef Trent plus plenty of socializing in the Hotel Parlors.

Please let us know whether you'd be interested in this and how you'd like it to work in either comments or private messages. We think the hotel, with its cozy spaces, friendly staff and talented kitchen has the right mix to make this an event Mahjong players will really enjoy.
