Tensions were boiling over as the Welgevonden Male was pushing out the young male from the Nkawu Pride last week.

Other members of the lion pride were standing their ground, with the mother of the young male rushing in to intercept the Welgevonden Male from attacking the youngster.

His time with the pride is officially up.

The dynamics of the Nkawu Pride is changing. The young male, lion, now at roughly 18 months, is being pushed out by his father, the dominant Welgevonden Male Lion.

Lodge manager Waldo found the Pride and the Welgevonden Male close to Bhejane Dam when the large male stamped down his authority.

The young male will soon be on his own, where an uncertain and difficult path lays ahead of him without the safety of the Pride.

Have you seen one of Africa’s rarest animals, in broad daylight?

Not many people come across this peculiar ant eater, even less so in broad daylight.

Preferring to forage for termites and ants during the darkest hours of the night, our field guides came across this very relaxed aardvark late in the morning as it was digging a hole to sleep in.

The Undisputed King.

At 6 years old, the Welgevonden male lion doesn’t need to do much to command attention. Completely in his prime, he exudes the effortless confidence and awe that only a male lion can.
