Winter's Flame in the Lowveld

As winter settles over the Lowveld, the vibrant Krantz Aloe (Aloe arborescens) comes into bloom, painting the landscape with striking shades of fiery red and orange. These hardy indigenous aloes are a welcome source of nectar for sunbirds and other wildlife during the cooler months.

If you're travelling along the R40 and passing by Nabana Lodge this winter, keep an eye out for these spectacular flowering aloes. Their colourful blooms stand out against the winter bushveld and create one of the Lowveld's most beautiful seasonal displays.

The Krantz Aloe is named for its natural habitat, often growing on rocky cliffs and steep slopes ("krantz" means cliff in Afrikaans). Its bright flowers are a sure sign that winter has arrived in the Lowveld.
