🦅SHE GOT A NEW HAIRSTYLE!🛖
You may have noticed a little renovation happening at Raptors Lodge… one of our chalets recently got a brand-new thatch hat!
After a year of seriously unpredictable Lowveld weather — sunshine, heat, heavy rain, wind and everything in between — the old thatch had finally reached the end of its journey.
So we took it off, cleared away the old rotten thatch and gave her a fresh new covering.
But there's more to thatching than simply making a chalet look beautiful.
A properly thatched roof is a skilled craft. The thatch is carefully layered and secured to create a natural roof covering that helps protect the building from the elements, while giving bushveld properties that unmistakable African safari character.
A well-built thatched roof can typically last around 15–20 years, although its lifespan depends on the type and quality of thatch, workmanship, roof design, weather exposure and regular maintenance.
It's one of the reasons thatch has become so iconic across Limpopo and the Lowveld. It belongs here. It blends into the bush, keeps that natural safari feel and has become part of the character of so many lodges and bushveld properties.
And for us, it's also about something important:

Come rain or shine, they kept going — working around our busy lodge schedule, keeping to the deadline and making sure the job was completed without compromising the experience of our guests.
