Remote doesn't mean roughing it! Liuwa Camp does remote properly: solar-powered and fully catered, it sits on Liuwa Plain with room for just 18 guests. The 7 raised ensuite tents are angled towards the plain or the waterhole, so the view's part of the stay, not an afterthought.

Days are spent out with local guides, on foot or by vehicle, tracking whatever the plain produces. By the evening you're back at camp, surrounded by Lozi design and craftsmanship that root the place firmly in Barotseland.

Experienced photographers know that the strongest wildlife photographs come from waiting in one place.

The Mahlasela hide at Tembe Elephant Park offers a low-key way to watch the waterhole and study behaviour as it unfolds. Elephants and buffalo are frequent visitors, while other species may appear without warning. Transfers from Tembe Elephant Park Lodge to the hide can be arranged during the day, giving photographers time to work with changing light rather than rushing from one sighting to the next.

Tembe protects 30,000 hectares of Sand Forest and coastal plain in northern KwaZulu-Natal. The park and lodge are rooted in the ancestral home of the Tembe people, who own and co-manage the lodge and park.

Camp Imbalanga places guests close to Imbalanga Baï, a natural forest clearing reached by a short walkway.
