Parkes Manor is the Grande Dame among the guest houses in Knysna, a timeless classic reviving the charme and elegance of a long gone era.

Situated in a large park-like garden the manor house offers beautiful views over the Knysna lagoon. Reopened in 2013 and carefully restored to detail Parkes Manor offers the ultimate hospitality experience in a calm and cosy environment but yet well positioned to easily access all amenities the center of the Garden Route has to offer.

Join us every evening at Glenshiel Restaurant, where refined dining meets timeless elegance.

Our dinner menu features a selection of fresh salads, flavourful pasta, tasty wraps and sandwiches, as well as classic South African main dishes — carefully prepared to delight every palate.

Glenshiel Restaurant is open daily from 18h00 to 21h00 for our in-house guests and the public.

Bookings are essential.

Discover the Timeless Charm of Parkes Manor!

Nestled in the heart of Knysna, South Africa, Parkes Manor stands as a living piece of history. Built in 1927 by George Parkes—one of the pioneers of Knysna's thriving timber industry—this elegant manor is one of the oldest residential buildings in town.

George and his wife F***y arrived in this "Wood Mecca" in 1891, drawn by its natural beauty. They established a sawmill and became the first to export manufactured wooden goods from Knysna. Their Geo Parkes & Sons Log Yard operated in the town center (now Woodmill Lane) until 1984, before relocating to the industrial area where it thrives today.

The family first called Hoogekraal farm home, but in 1927, they began constructing Parkes Manor, completing it in 1929. Sadly, George never lived to enjoy it, but his descendants cherished it for three generations, raising families amid its peace and tranquility.

Owned by the Parkes family until 1997, it was then transformed into a guest house. Since 2013, under new ownership, we've lovingly restored every detail, blending the grace of a bygone era with modern comforts.

Whether you're seeking romance, serenity, or a luxurious nature escape, Parkes Manor invites you to step back in time while indulging in today's luxuries.
