We are at the centre of one of the darkest and most star-studded locations in England. While urban areas in the UK measure high on the luminosity scale (such as Glasgow at 1500 or London at 850), due to our location, we register near zero.

Our precious wildlife.
We are at the centre of a protected reserve with thriving wildlife such as red squirrels, salmon, ring ouzel, alpine wildflowers and mountain ringlet butterflies among so many birds. Long walks will give you the chance to come across a variety of species of plants and wildlife.
If you have the chance take the opportunity to see the events and experiences available through Wild Haweswater a ground-breaking landscape recovery partnership between the RSPB and United Utilities pioneering restoration work, led by conservationists.
From Badger-watching, Red Squirrel photography and wild camping with native Cumbrian Fell Ponies to meditation in the forest.

We have our own little microclimate between mountains making the light incredibly special here. Autumn and Winter are particularly beautiful seasons at the Haweswater for those who love dramatic scenery and skies. Every hike is different, no day is the same.
