Three amazing events this June

Summer has arrived in the Forest of Dean and we’re excited to share some wonderful local events, all less than an hour’s drive away.

First, the Royal Three Counties Show is a beautiful celebration of rural life.

Then, the Cheltenham Science Festival offers a week of curiosity and big ideas.

And Live on the Wye brings music right to the riverside valley.

Click the link in our bio and let the Forest guide you to your peaceful mid-week escape this month. Join 'The Inside Track' and receive a late availability discount.

There is a particular shade of green that belongs to the Forest of Dean in early May. From Symonds Yat Rock, the canopy drops away towards the River Wye in soft, bright layers, giving you one of those views that makes you stop for a moment.

Just 20 minutes from our cottages, it is a lovely place for a slower spring morning. Take the steps up to the viewpoint, look out for the peregrine falcons on the cliffs, then stop for coffee at Symonds Yat Rock Café.

From there, you can follow the Wellbeing Trail through the woods, head down towards the river on the Biblins Loop, or take the Kingfisher mini cruise for a calm view of the valley from the water. Ye Olde Ferrie Inn is close by too, right on the riverbank, if you fancy lunch before heading back.

Then it is back to your cottage, kettle on, dog curled up by your feet, and that tired, happy feeling you only get after fresh forest air.

Planning a spring Forest of Dean stay? Symonds Yat is one of our top recommendations.

The raised patio at 24 at St John’s is a perfect spot for a leisurely afternoon. With seating for six, it’s where you can finally sit back in an area warmed by the sun and watch the children playing on the flat lawn while the BBQ gets going.

There is a real sense of ease sitting here, with containers of plants lining the edge so you can relax while keeping a clear eye on the garden. The hot tub is tucked just by the stone's edge, so you can chat easily with whoever is in the water.

After dark, the garden feels just as settled. The solar-powered lights on the house and inside the parasol keep the patio welcoming, and the coloured lights in the hot tub make for a beautiful spot to end the day. The garden is fully enclosed for dogs and children, and with off-road parking for two vehicles, settling in is simple.
