Here's a quiet reminder as you head into a new week: not all disabilities are visible. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Did you know that around 80% of disabled people in the UK have a condition that isn’t immediately visible?

Invisible disabilities include things like chronic pain, fatigue conditions, anxiety, depression, autism, ADHD, epilepsy, hearing loss, visual impairment and many more. The list is long — and the people living with these often present, to the outside world, exactly like everyone else.

That’s where the difficulty lies. When a disability isn’t immediately visible, it can be easy for others to assume it isn’t there. People get questioned. They feel pressure to “look” a certain way to ask for help. They’re met with doubt when they need adjustments, or simply don’t mention it at all because they’re tired of explaining.

This Invisible Disabilities Week, it’s worth remembering: a bit of patience, a lot less assumption, and the willingness to take someone at their word goes a long way.
