North Berwick is one of those places where a couple of days never feels quite long enough.

Book a break at Rock and Castle Escapes and you’ve got so much of East Lothian to explore - wander around North Berwick’s harbour and town, head to the beach, take a boat trip out towards Bass Rock or spend the day discovering the coastline.

There’s Tantallon Castle, Seacliff Beach and some brilliant coastal walks nearby, plus plenty of cafés, restaurants and little independent shops to come back to in town.

And once you’ve packed enough into the day, you can head back to your cabin, slow things down and do it all again tomorrow.

It might look like a rock sitting quietly off the East Lothian coast, but Bass Rock is home to one of the world’s largest colonies of northern gannets. And simply put, the white is just bird poo 😂

📍 Bass Rock, East Lothian

This volcanic plug is around 100 metres high and becomes home to tens of thousands of gannets during the breeding season.

But there’s more to Bass Rock than wildlife. Over the centuries it has also been home to a castle, used as a prison and later became the site of a lighthouse.

You can spot it from several places along the East Lothian coast, including North Berwick, Tantallon Castle and Seacliff Beach - but seeing it up close from the water is something else.
