Our first named storm of the season, Storm Boelo, ripped through Morvern on Saturday afternoon and through the night into Sunday.

Sadly, we lost one of our most spectacular trees, an old Copper Beech at Achranich which for many years has treated our residents and visitors to ever-changing cycles of purple, green and gold.

Achranich has lost a treasure… but did gain a swimming pool for a short time!

🐾 A wild visitor with a not-so-wild side…

Castle Cottages 1 & 2 are a bit of a wildlife hotspot here at Ardtornish, often attracting guests hoping to see Pine Martens that frequently visit the gardens.

But our recent guest, Tweed Photographer, captured a rather different visitor…

Identified by NatureScot as a hybrid wildcat, this is one of several that have been spotted around Ardtornish. Wildcats and their hybrid descendants are typically elusive, shy and keen to keep their distance from people, making a sighting like this all the more special.

But here's the twist… our guest's photographs have also helped us identify this particular cat as a familiar face at one of our housekeepers' homes, where it has been popping in through the cat flap and making itself comfortable among her many other pets!

Perhaps this wild visitor isn't quite as wild as it would have us believe 🐈

🐝🌸 We are back in buzz-iness at Ardtornish thanks to Beekeeper Jamie Boult

The colonies that are making a home in these hives are native Hebridean Bees - as can be told by their dark colouring - and are therefore suited to the local environment. Busy in their work, they will help with pollination in The Kitchen Garden, House Gardens and surrounding area.

Next year, we hope to be able to sell their honey in The Old Dairy Gift Shop 🍯

Meet Moss and Myrtle! 🐏

These two Nanny goats are currently enjoying a holiday at Ardtornish. They belong to The Goat Club in our local village and are taking a break from their milking routine to enjoy a change of scenery and - although they are oblivious - do us a favour!

Moss and Myrtle are busy tackling a patch of scrub and brambles behind the Kitchen Garden, helping us clear the space so we can put it to good use in the future. It’s a win-win: a holiday for the girls and a spot of natural landscaping for us!

Stag season is upon us 🍂🦌

As autumn arrives, we offer guests the opportunity to join our Stalker and Ghillie for a traditional Red Deer stalking experience on the wild hills of Morvern.

Spend a day immersed in the magnificent Highland landscape, learning about a practice that has been part of life in the Highlands for centuries.

Deer management is an important part of our wider conservation and regeneration efforts here at Ardtornish. Our venison is sold in The Old Dairy Gift Shop, used in our homemade ready meals and served at The Coal Shed Cafe — making the most of a sustainable, locally sourced resource.

If you’d like to experience traditional Red Deer stalking during a stay at Ardtornish, get in touch to enquire about bookings for the 2027 season 🍂

🐾🌳 Happy Monday from Ardtornish!

A little fact to start the week: Pine Martens can rotate their hind feet backwards, helping them climb out of their beds and down tree trunks head-first.

Basically, they’re considerably better at Monday mornings than we are😴
