Hi 👋 We’re Angela and Paul. You’ve seen the pods, so we thought it was time you met us too!

We’d love to tell you how it all began, why we decided to take the leap and what’s gone into bringing the pods to life.

A few little moments from life here at Tarn S**e Woodland Retreat, each one making us stop and smile.

Watching the swans return to our lake, unpacking our new wooden keyrings with the names of the pods, and seeing the bridge to the glamping pods light up for the first time. ✨

Feeling grateful for the journey so far and taking time to enjoy it as we go.

Before the wind and rain arrived, we managed to take a little break from the work and capture some lovely autumn photos of our woodland retreat 🍁 plus a sneak peek inside pod number one of four! 🏡

Lots taking shape behind the scenes and plenty of hard graft still ahead… but we’re really happy with how things are looking across the site!

Over the hills. Through hidden valleys. Across wild, windswept moorland, where the landscape feels wonderfully bleak and forgotten... you'll find something rather unusual. 👀

Hidden among this vast, empty landscape lies an ancient long cairn. A prehistoric burial ground, standing as a silent reminder of the people who walked these hills thousands of years before us.

🪨 A few fascinating facts:

⏳ Long cairns were built during the Neolithic period, with examples dating back more than 5,000 years - making them older than Stonehenge’s famous stone circle.

⚱️ These mysterious stone mounds were often used for communal burials, sometimes containing the remains of several individuals. They may also have served as important ceremonial places for early farming communities.

Thousands of years of history, hidden in one of the quietest corners of the Westmorland Dales.

📍 Westmorland Dales, Cumbria.

We’ve got some rather nosy neighbours here at Tarn S**e! 🐿️🍁👀

While we’ve been busy bringing the interiors of our cosy glamping pods to life, the local wildlife has been checking up on our progress.

We’re really enjoying this stage of the journey at Tarn S**e Woodland Retreat – choosing the little details, adding all those homely touches… it’s a lot more fun than muddy wellies and outdoor groundwork in the rain! 😂☔️

Sleep is overrated. Unless you’re testing the new beds (see last image haha!). 💤🤣

It’s been all hands on deck at Tarn S**e Woodland Retreat of late, and we’ve got some exciting things happening...

🛁 Outdoor baths are being installed beside the pods. Bubble baths under the trees? Yes please!

🔥🪵 We’ve been busy creating a social firepit area for those long evenings, good company and toasted marshmallows (of course).

🛏️ Inside the pods, we’re starting to work our magic to make everything feel cosy, welcoming and a little bit special. ✨

The days are long, the to-do list is even longer… 🤪 but at least we have discovered that our new mattresses are VERY comfortable! x

Before you know it, we'll be ready to start welcoming guests to Tarn S**e Woodland Retreat ... who fancies being one of the first?! 👋

Farming has been at the heart of life in the Westmorland Dales for centuries. From the dry-stone walls that criss-cross the hills to the sheep and cattle grazing the surrounding fields, agriculture has helped shape the landscape we know and love today. 🌾

In fact, the Westmorland County Agricultural Society dates all the way back to 1799! 👀 A reminder of just how deeply rooted farming is in this part of the world.

Here at Tarn S**e Woodland Retreat, we’re located on a farm ourselves, with a few animals of our own. We’ll have to introduce you to some of them in future posts! 🐑🐄

We hope they’ll add a little something extra to the glamping experience, particularly for guests who haven’t had the chance to experience farm life up close.

A few more steps forward at Tarn S**e Woodland Retreat! 🌿

Our newly completed dry stone wall by P W Hughes Stonework is looking right at home, overlooking the surrounding countryside and rolling fields.

Work is now progressing on the outdoor areas around the pods, A&R landscapes Cumbria are creating level spaces, completing pathways and laying paving flags to bring everything together.

With the electrics now in place ⚡️, attention is also turning to the interiors, where we’re beginning to add the thoughtful little details that will make each pod feel that bit more special.

🏕️ Be sure to follow Tarn S**e Woodland Retreat for more behind-the-scenes updates as our woodland retreat comes to life!
