🕯️ Herbert E. Balch has returned to Wookey Hole...

His excavations at Wookey Hole revealed Stone Age tools, Iron Age artefacts, human remains and evidence of the people who once lived within the caves. His careful work helped us understand the remarkable history of Wookey Hole and preserved many of its discoveries for future generations.

Visit this Halloween and you might meet Herbert himself, alongside a whole host of spooky characters bringing the caves’ stories and legends to life… 🪨👻

🎃 WOOKEY HOLE VILLAGE WITCHY SCARECROW TRAIL 🧙‍♀️

Witchy scarecrows are popping up outside homes all around Wookey Hole village! This Halloween, our arcane neighbours are joining in the magic once again, filling the village with their weird and wonderful witchy creations.

But this isn’t just any scarecrow trail. It’s steeped in a rich local tradition dating all the way back to the 1920s, when the whole village came together to take part in a show inspired by the caves and their legends, raising money for the local Women’s Institute. Today, that community spirit lives on as villagers honour the famous Witch of Wookey Hole with their Halloween scarecrow creations.

We're honoured to be a part of this tradition and cant wait to see all of the scarecrows! Pick up a trail map from Wookey Hole Hotel reception during your visit, explore the village and vote for your favourite.

Grab a map and follow the Witchy Scarecrow Trail! 🧹✨
