A little Moonfleet history you might not know… 📖
Long before family holidays and adventures in the Play Barn, Moonfleet was inspiring a rather different kind of adventure.
In 1898, J. Meade Falkner published Moonfleet, a novel set in 1797 that follows a young boy who gets caught up in a world of smugglers, secret passages and hidden treasure along the Dorset coast.
And the inspiration? Moonfleet itself, along with the neighbouring village of Fleet. You can even spot familiar local landmarks and references to the Mohune family throughout the story.
We rather like the thought that, all these years later, there's still plenty of adventure to be had here. 🌊
