I mentioned the closure of ‘Danger Bank’, the Larpool Lane end of Eskdale Road in my last post. A news release has just confirmed that it will not open until 2027. For us, other locals, and our guests, I feel this is a cloud with a silver lining. Yes it is little inconvenient to have to take a longer route at times - but we often made that choice even before the closure as ‘Danger Bank’ got its nickname for a reason. On the other hand, the B1416 which takes you over the moors to Robin Hoods Bay is a delight (marred only by the sad remnants of the wildfires) and there are multiple options to reach Whitby centre.

But the absence of two way traffic on what was a narrow twisting road with poor visibility is a bonus for drivers, walkers, cyclists and horseriders, especially for people holidaying in the caravan parks on Eskdale Road.

I do feel for holidaymakers who are currently struggling to understand the closure and do think that signage from North Yorkshire Council could make the situation a little clearer.

Nice that this was considered sufficiently important to be picked up by BBC

The route between Whitby and Ruswarp is still closed almost two years after the initial incident.

We are at the end of the no through single track road that turns up from Eskdale Road on the edge of Ruswarp. It’s one of the special things about our site - and makes us especially popular with walkers or guests simply seeking a peaceful retreat.

The Larpool Lane (‘danger bank’) part of the road has been closed for some time. This means the approach road much quieter which is a bonus. It also means you have to reach is via the Ruswarp side. We send detailed directions when you book.

In terms of getting out and about when you are here, the pros outweigh the cons. The route of central Whitby is not affected and there is a beautiful drive over the moors to Robin Hoods Bay and Scarborough via the B1416.

And of course there are the many walks from our door. Through the woods to The Windmill. Forty minutes to Visit Whitby. Five miles to . Or, less genetic by very useful is the cross country route to Aldi UK, Sainsbury's too.

We are so chuffed to welcome so many new followers over the past week. So near to that exciting 10K mileston.

If you have followed us recently, thank you. You can find out more about our three magical cabins, set in a haven of tranquility very near Whitby, on our web page. Link in bio..

But I thought I would share a quick tour round the cabins here too. Just a reminder of the three things we do not have on this site.

NO hot tubs, NO dogs and No children*

* That one is a little misleading. We do sometimes welcome solo adults with a child if they are looking for a quiet break but our all cabins are for two people only.

What we do offer is total privacy peace and seclusion in two luxury 40 sqm cabins and one cosy 20 sqm cabins. All fully equipped, ensuite an comfortable inside with special places to relax outside too

Great to be featured in The Whitby Guide. If you haven’t subscribed yet it is full of super useful information about Whitby.

These Whitby Log Cabins offer a true escape into nature. And no, they don’t have hot tubs. 🌿

For anyone looking to swap the bustle of Whitby for birdsong, woodland views and proper peace and quiet, these truly secluded log cabins offer something refreshingly simple yet comfortable.

Set in quiet woodland near Whitby, the cabins are for couples or friends who want to slow down, unplug, and feel close to nature. There are no hot tubs here, which is part of what makes them special.

The owners have asked guests about hot tubs, but regular customers said the site is already perfect, with private cabins, natural surroundings, peaceful evenings, and the sound of birds and trees instead of the hum of extra facilities.

The owners say keeping the cabins hot tub-free helps keep prices competitive while preserving the peaceful woodland atmosphere that guests return for.

To maintain calm and ensure wildlife can thrive, all cabins are for two adults only and do not accept dogs.

For walkers, the location, in the North York Moors National Park, is a real treat. A network of footpaths leads from the site, and you can reach the Cinder Track leading to Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay, as well as moorland and coastal paths. This place is suited to a longer stay to fully appreciate the area.

Weekend breaks are popular as guests can walk to Whitby without needing to find a parking spot. But longer midweek breaks are ideal to truly rest and restore. Quieter paths, slower mornings, peaceful evenings by the log burner, and Whitby close enough for a day out when you want a little seaside bustle.

Some guests have said they wish they had booked an extra day just to stay in the cabin and enjoy the surroundings. A day with no plans. No schedule. Just coffee with a woodland view, a good book, a walk from the door, and an evening under the stars.

For nature lovers, walkers, or anyone craving a quiet rural retreat, this place is a reminder that the best kind of luxury can be space, stillness and a view through the trees.

The cabins are fully equipped for a comfortable stay, and two of the three even have slipper baths, a great way to relax after a day on the moors, or just to relax because you can.

No hot tub. No groups. No unnecessary fuss.

Just quiet, spacious and private cabins, beautiful scenery, walking from the site, and a real chance to pause, all in the stunning North York Moors National Park and still close to Whitby for day trips.

So you love Whitby but struggle when it’s busy or parking is a problem? When Whitby is at its busiest what could be better than your own piece of private woodland - only two miles from the centre? The only sounds are rustling leaves, birdsong and later the hooting of the owls.
