Free parking 👀

🅿️ Free winter parking returns to Whitby’s West Cliff! ❄️

Good news for anyone planning a winter visit to Whitby: seasonal parking charges have officially ended on parts of the town’s West Cliff.

From 1st November 2026 until 28th February 2027, motorists can park free of charge in designated seasonal pay-and-display bays, with parking charges not returning until 1st March.

The winter arrangements mean visitors can enjoy Whitby’s spectacular coastal views, take a stroll along the West Cliff, explore the town’s independent shops or enjoy a leisurely day by the seaside without paying for parking in these bays.

Under the seasonal arrangements, the usual pay-and-display charges and associated seasonal maximum-stay restrictions are suspended, giving visitors a little more flexibility during the quieter winter months.

The free winter parking arrangements have been in place for several years and were originally introduced partly because Whitby’s popular Park and Ride service does not operate during the winter.

However, free parking doesn’t apply everywhere in Whitby. Other parking restrictions, including yellow lines, designated permit bays and separate car park regulations, may still apply.

Motorists are advised to check the signs before leaving their vehicles.

With the busy summer season and Whitby Goth Weekend now behind us, it’s another welcome reason to enjoy the quieter side of this beautiful Yorkshire seaside town.
