Availability alert! Free next weekend 11th /12th September!
This is our beautiful Writers Retreat camp. Tucked away in a secret corner of the farm by the bubbling beck and ancient woodland. In the middle of nowhere but only 3.5 miles from Whitby.
Log burner, sleigh bed, writing desk, indoor/outdoor shower with a gramophone shower head, lots of stained glass. Even a cabinet of curiosities, and full interesting books to read. Or even start your own?
Your own private deck under the trees by the beck, a place to be entirely immersed in peace and quiet of nature.
Its the most tucked away and secluded of all our camps, the most protected if the weather turns. Perfect to get away from it all.
Link to book in the bio - there's still time to join us for September!

Here's a beautiful glimpse of one family's stay with us this summer, courtesy of the lovely Nancy | Motherhood, Slow Living, Introvert
We always see our guests down to their camps but we rarely get to see them enjoying the place, so these little snapshots mean all the more.
Kids laughing and paddling, swinging on the swings. Glasses of wine and peaceful afternoons playing by the beck. And of course feeding the chickens!
This is Writers' Retreat and this secret deck with its shallow pool is all yours for your stay. Hidden away from the world at the edge of ancient woodland, surrounded by nature with just birdsong and the bubbling of the beck as your soundtrack.
There's still time to join us this year as the summer fades to autumn. Or bookings are now available for next summer.

Just for the briefest moment the fields and the woods are ours and ours alone.
The dogs and I ran and splashed and admired tiny mushrooms, drank in the lush green of it, and it was wonderful.
This is my favourite poem by Mary Oliver. She writes beautiful things about nature and dogs and what's not to love about that?

Sunshine after the rain.
After last nights thunderstorms, rain last week and more rain today the land feels like it's breathing a sigh of relief. Scorched paths are greening up and the spring is starting to flow again.
I even braved a trip to the ponds today - they've been nothing but a muddy hole all summer and its made me quite sad to be there. There's still no water but I was thrilled to find this perfect splash of purple amongst the reeds - purple loosestrife has established itself despite the drought.
Nature is amazing. Just when you think all is lost it never fails to surprise you.

Here's some random thoughts for you (brace yourselves ๐Ÿ˜†).
Every day the dogs and I go for a walk up onto the moor near the site. At the moment there are brambles everywhere so we all look for a few choice ones and eat a few each on the walk. Goodness this is pleasant I think every day, and the dogs seem pretty happy with it too.
Then I got to thinking well of course this makes my brain happy - this is literally what its designed for - walking about in nature foraging for berries.
Bronze age round houses have been found on this moor, and I got to wonder has this activity changed much since my bronze age counterpart walked along here searching for berries? Not much I would guess.. maybe she had her dog with her too?
Anyway, my point is your tired little brain will love you very much if you give it some stuff its designed for for a while, instead of constant screens. An activity its been used to for for thousands of years.
So why not turn your phone off, and go and hunt for some berries for a bit. Maybe take a dog as apparently its and if mine are anything to go by they really like blackberries.
You could even make a crumble if you don't eat them all.

Lots of fun making this one between us - Ed building and me painting. Pretty pleased with how its turned out!
Sometimes I wonder if my main motivation for this camp is I get to paint lots of stuff gold ๐Ÿ˜†.
Speaking of which - off to do some more painting..

It only went and bloody rained!! You can actually feel the land taking a big sigh of relief and drinking it in. Had to find my coat and wellies and everything.
Happy and relieved. It won't fix our water woes overnight but it all helps!

For anyone following my post from last week when it was so hot the swallow chicks took a dive out of their nest - the great news is they made it!
Today is much cooler and we even had a bit of rain this morning. But these noisy little faces poking out of the nest when I was cleaning Northern Skies have made my day!
