A big part of what’s happening in School House simply wouldn’t be possible without the Otago Boys' Foundation and the support of our wider OBHS community.

The upgraded spaces are going to make a real difference for the boys who live here.

In one of the great second half performances by our first 11 hockey team, they have come back from 3-1 down against Lindisfarne College of Napier, to level the score 3 all with the final penalty corner of the match - thank you Mason Kingan (“there’s only one Mason Kingan”). Sending it to a penalty shootout. Where the boys pulled through with Toby McLean scoring an impressive goal between his legs to send us to the semifinals tomorrow. What lads, a great show of fight and resilience to come back and all the best tomorrow.

Our under 15 blues team beat Hastings today 31 to 7 and now playoff the 9th tomorrow. Good luck lads.

Our junior basketball team has been ‘carving up’ at SISS tournament over the past couple of days in Christchurch. Hostel boys Eli Hellyer and Ryley Buchan have been a key part of the success. Ryley and day boy Eti had a game to remember v Mount Aspiring yesterday, booking themselves a spot in the finals today. All the best lads

Congratulations to the winners of our Term 2 School Holidays photo competition. An incentive by Prefect Robbie Nichol who had the boys send in photos from their school holidays. Mr Mouat down at school was the judge.

What a night to be at One New Zealand stadium.
Couple of Otago Boys’ old boys involved with the Northland side last night. Head Coach Ryan Martin was a Top 4 winning First XV captain 1998, and Josh Renton 2008-2012, also First XV captain , brought home the Ranfurly Shield for the first time since 1978.

A huge result for our Hockey First XI last night as they beat John McGlashan 3-2 in the final and reclaimed the Rowe Shield! OBS were always ahead after an early goal in the first quarter to Eden Smith. 2 quality strikes in the 3rd and 4th quarter by Mason Kingan (“there’s only one Mason Kingan”) had the lads up 3-1. McGlashan gave us a late scare and the fans certainly had one eye on the clock but our boys held on.

We’re super proud of you and your coaching staff. 17 of the 18 lads are from the hostel. There was a great crowd down at the MacMillan Turf supporting both sides last night. We wish our First XI all the best for the Rankin Cup in 2 weeks time.

A massive congratulations to Yr9 hostel boy Jules Thomson after being named in the New Zealand Under 16 Ice Hockey team that will play in the Pan Pacific Tournament from 28 October - 2 November. A tremendous achievement for the young man who has many years in the sport ahead of him. All the best Jules.
