There's a new book on our shelves at Pinecrest, and it came with a story we couldn't resist sharing.

The Button Box, written by Janet Sever Hull and illustrated by Vicki Killion Guess, begins with a real button box handed down through the family — and one button in particular. The story goes that a great-aunt sewed for Mrs. Lincoln, back before Mr. Lincoln became president. Years later, magnifying glass in hand, Janet and her mother pored over a library book about the Lincoln family to see if any of their buttons matched the ones on Mrs. Lincoln's clothing. One did. It's been called the Lincoln Button ever since.

We had the joy of meeting Janet (that's me with her, book in hand), and now The Button Box has found a home on our library shelf — right alongside the cookbooks and Carolina stories our guests love to thumb through on a slow morning.
Next time you're with us, pull it down and read the whole story for yourself.

There's the stay — and then there are the little extras that turn a weekend away into the one you keep talking about.
A cheese and charcuterie board to linger over after a day in town. Chocolate-dipped strawberries waiting when you open the door. A picnic packed and ready to spread out under the trees.
Add these upgrades when you book, and we'll have it ready for you!

When you arrive, Pinecrest Bed & Breakfast is waiting in Asheville's Montford Historic District — adults-only, walkable, and about a mile from downtown. Innkeepers Dan and Diane will help you make the most of every day you're here.

This summer, every Thursday I pick up flowers for the foyer — local blooms from Blazing Star Flowers , a small farm out of Alexander, NC. Their CSA drop is at Ginger's Revenge Craft Brewery & Tasting Room which means I also order a ginger beer. Two Asheville small businesses, one stop.
Guests see these flowers at check-in and every time they come and go. A fresh local bouquet in the foyer felt like the right welcome.

The Thomas Wolfe Suite is one of those rooms that stops you in your doorway. Carved mahogany bed, electric fireplace, clawfoot tub, antique vanity — and a made-from-scratch breakfast waiting for you in the morning. Named for Asheville's most famous author, and every bit as memorable.

Craggy Gardens on the Blue Ridge Parkway is at peak rhododendron bloom right now — and the window is short. They bloom once a year and conditions have to be just right. Last night we headed up at 5pm, had the trails nearly to ourselves, and were home before dark.
20 miles from Pinecrest. Worth every minute of the drive.
If you're planning to visit Asheville soon, put this on your list. But go this week. And even if you miss the blooms, those long range views are there every single day.

Peach season is here, and that means one thing at Pinecrest — peach turnovers at breakfast.
We pick up fresh peaches from Creasman Farms at the Asheville tailgate markets every summer. By the next morning they're tucked inside flaky puff pastry, glazed, and on your plate alongside our savory egg dishes. It's one of those seasonal rituals we look forward to all year.
The recipe is ours and it's on the blog — link in the comments. 🍑

Here's a fun fact about this summer: Memorial Day fell as early as possible and Labor Day lands as late as possible — giving us an extra week of summer that won't come around again until 2037.

We think that's worth celebrating.

From June 1st through August 31st, book two nights at Pinecrest and save 20% on your second night. More time in the mountains, a little savings on your stay, and a scratch-made breakfast waiting for you every morning.

Asheville summers are something special. We'd love to share ours with you.
