SO YOU KNOW THE DRILL...

The Senate Armed Services Committee met yesterday to discuss and vote on amendments to the 2027 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). At this point we cannot confirm or deny
whether there are any “woke” amendments to the Senate version of the NDAA that would affect the restoration of the Reconciliation Memorial to Arlington
National Cemetery. But, Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia are members so we need to be prepared if woke amendments affecting Arlington were approved by the committee. The actual texts of the approved Senate version will not be released until next week. I just read a 30 page “executive” summary of the Senate version and could not find anything alarming about Arlington, but we will be on guard anyway!

you on our next necessary steps to block any bad amendments, if any! We are behind in paying bills, so please

I have 3 trips on my credit card totalling $900 that are nagging me, all including hotel & car rental expense for attending & speaking at the HK Memorial, and 2 important Arlington trips, including conferring with an old friend who will almost certainly become a newly elected congressman's Chief of Staff in the Fall.

Daguerrian Society auction

Pvt. Edward Ashley Bowen Phelps, Co. H, Regiment of Mounted Riflemen. I'm currently editing his letters for publication. Phelps enlisted on 19 October 1846, hoping to go west with the RMR, but the war sent him to Mexico. He did, however, go west after the war as a private in Co. L, 1st Artillery. He's buried in an unmarked grave in Kelso, Washington.

VISITED HK on MEMORIAL DAY

Visited HKs grave on Memorial Day, permanent marker has not arrived yet. My nephew left a Confederate flag at the grave yesterday, but will probably be removed by the end of the day. HK is in Section 9A grave 662 of the Black Mountain Veteran's Cemetery.

UNEXPECTED EXPENSES

Ancestry.com is a very useful tool for the SLRC, we use it as a search engine for finding people that don't want to be found, finding living descendants for Confederates buried in Arlington, But the annual automatic renewal is $479.00 Ouch!

Including car rental I spent $500 (also on a credit card) traveling to Elm Springs and back for the HK Memorial a few weeks ago.

And Brenna had to visit Urgent Care this week $200 (she's fine) But that's a total of $1200 out of pocket, for your Chief Trial counsel who mostly survives on his Social Security.
