A day outdoors used to mean a cooler in the back seat, sturdy shoes, and somebody complaining about the climb before we even got started. Then you got to the part that made it worth it.

Turner Falls Park has that kind of pull. The big waterfall, the rocky hills, the swimming spots, and now that zipline overhead make it feel like a place where families can spend an entire day without ever getting bored.

It still has that rough-and-ready charm that keeps people coming back. You can almost hear the kids arguing over who’s brave enough to go first, and the grown-ups pretending they’re not nervous too.

I’m glad places like this still give people a reason to head out and make a day of it.

Late summer nights used to mean screen doors, dust on your shoes, and a place to sit after supper while the fire calmed down. That feeling comes right back in spots like this.

Cabins, tents, campers, and the sound of people settling in with coolers, folding chairs, and a skillet breakfast waiting for morning. Out here, the pace drops fast.

And then there’s the water nearby, which is enough to make folks forget about the clock for a while. I still think places like this are where a lot of family stories get started.
