Breakfast is something very special at our historic inn 🥰 —it’s one of the things that sets our Lancaster County, PA, Bed and Breakfast apart from the rest!

From the fluffy homemade pancakes or Belgian waffles to Scotch Eggs, eggs in a nest, our signature blueberry cream cheese French toast or sausage-waffle casseroles and homemade quiches, we use the finest locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. After all, we have the distinct advantage of living in the bread basket of America! Have you made your leaf-peeping plans? Here is what fall is looking like!

We are in Ephrata, in Lancaster County—the light green county near the lower-right portion of the map. That puts us in the “4th Week” category, with peak foliage estimated for roughly October 22–31.

Because Ephrata sits in northeastern Lancaster County, close to the Lebanon and Berks County lines, we may begin seeing strong color a little earlier than southern Lancaster County. For planning your Smithton Inn stay, look at October 18–28 as a particularly good foliage window, with Halloween week likely at or just beyond peak depending on the weather.

My 2026 Fall Foliage Peak Estimate is here just in time for autumn!

A few years ago I created this map (which other pages have since ripped off) that estimates peak foliage by county based on the last 7 years of on-the-ground reports from DCNR. It's not based on this year's weather, but an average of when each county has been labeled as "peak foliage" in the past.

If you're thinking about fall foliage season, this is a good starting point for planning your travels, especially since it's HIGHLY likely that peak foliage will either be the week listed or the week before or after, with still good color in the area in all three weeks.

Thanks to the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for their great annual fall foliage reports which make this map possible.

Most people drive past Lancaster County Central Park without knowing a Revolutionary War general’s home sits inside it.
