🐢 Happy World Turtle Day! 🌊
Did you know that May marks the official start of sea turtle nesting season here along the Grand Strand? As dusk settles over the coast, our amazing loggerhead ocean friends are beginning to make their way onto the sand to lay their eggs.
While local volunteer groups do an amazing job monitoring and protecting nests all along our beaches, these nesting moms need our help, too! If you’re out for a starlit stroll tonight near Sea Crest Resort, please help us keep them safe with a few simple steps:
🚫 Keep it dark: Turn off flashlights, phone lights, and beach-facing balcony lights. Artificial light disorients the turtles, who rely on the natural moonlight to guide them.
🕳️ Leave no trace: Flatten sandcastles and fill in any holes before you leave for the day so nesting moms (and hatchlings!) have a clear, safe path.
🎒 Pack it out: Remember to take all trash, chairs, and tents off the beach with you at night.
🐢 Give them space: If you are lucky enough to spot a sea turtle on the sand, admire her quietly from a distance and let her do her work.
Let's all do our part to keep our beautiful coastline a safe haven for these incredible creatures. Enjoy your evening on the beach! 💙✨
