We’re planning ahead to help keep our guests safe during the monsoon season (June-August) in Ruidoso. Fortunately, La Petit Cottage sits high enough up (and at a wide spot on the Creek) to be safe from Cedar Creek flooding, but there are a few spots on Paradise Canyon Dr that guests must be aware of that DO FLOOD and guests have to go through to get to the Cottage. We want to keep our guests aware so they can make informed decisions and enjoy their stay. So we will be attending one of these meetings. Grateful to have the Village of Ruidoso as a partner in this endeavor. Come enjoy the cool mountain ⛰️ pines🌲🌲of Ruidoso, escape the scorch heat of summer, but stay safe by staying aware of your surroundings and the weather!

Of all the reasons to visit Ruioso . . .

We know we don’t have to convince anyone how incredibly special our range of local wildlife is! Bears, elk, wild horses, birds, (and beyond!) make up our favorite group of local, four-legged, and furry residents. There’s something truly majestic about witnessing the horses on a snowy day, or catching a glimpse of an elk when you least expect it. When it comes to things to LOVE about the Village of Ruidoso, the wildlife is #1 in our hearts!

In case you smell smoke. . .

⚠️Prescribed Fire Operations Planned ⚠️
Smokey Bear Ranger District

The Lincoln National Forest is planning prescribed pile burning operations on the Smokey Bear Ranger District from January 29 through February 1, pending favorable weather conditions and required approvals.

Planned Prescribed Burns:
• Ruidoso Tower Prescribed Pile Burn – approximately 10 acres of
hand piles near the Ruidoso Lookout Tower
• McBride Prescribed Pile Burn – approximately 10 acres of hand
piles within the McBride Fire Scar

Prescribed fire is an important tool used to reduce hazardous fuels and help protect local communities, infrastructure, and natural resources from high-severity wildfires.

What to Expect:
• Temporary area closures may be in place near burn locations
• Smoke may be visible in Ruidoso, Ruidoso Downs, Alto, and the
Hondo Valley
• Fire personnel will remain on scene during and after operations to
secure and mop up burn areas

Smoke & Travel Safety:
If driving in smokey conditions:
• Slow down
• Turn on headlights
• Use hazard lights when visibility is reduced

Air quality information is available at fire.airnow.gov.

Prescribed fire operations will only take place if weather and staffing conditions are safe. If conditions change, operations may be postponed or canceled.

New Mexico ski country is stacking it up ❄️
Ski Apache leads the state with 13 inches in the last 24 hours, followed closely by Taos Ski Valley with 11 inches. Multiple resorts reported 4–6 inches overnight, opening more terrain across the board, and more snow is forecasted to come tonight. ⛷️🏂
