At Kievits Kroon, sustainability is one of the core principles guiding how we care for our estate. From our rooms and suites to our venues and gardens, we believe in creating memorable experiences without compromising the beautiful environment around us.

๐๐ด๐ฒ๐ป. ๐ฃ๐น๐ฎ๐ป๐ ๐ฌ๐ผ๐๐ฟ๐ ๐ง๐ผ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐โ, weโre reflecting on some of our 2026 sustainability projects, with a particular focus on increasing indigenous vegetation across the estate.

Sustainability has been firmly planted at the heart of the refurbishment of our large venue, De Kasteel. As part of our ongoing sustainability programme, we have planted:
๐ณ๐ฐ๐ฎ ร ๐ช๐ถ๐น๐ฑ ๐ข๐น๐ถ๐๐ฒ (Olea europaea subsp. africana) โ an indigenous South African tree providing food and shelter for birds and supporting local biodiversity.
๐ณ๐ฒ ร ๐ฅ๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐๐๐๐ต๐๐ถ๐น๐น๐ผ๐ (Combretum erythrophyllum) โ an indigenous shade tree offering habitat and food for birds and insects while creating a cooler, greener environment.
๐ณ๐ณ ร ๐ง๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฒ ๐ช๐ถ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฎ (Bolusanthus speciosus) โ an indigenous flowering tree providing colour, nectar and attracting pollinators.
๐ข๐๐ฟ ๐๐๐ป๐ถ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐ฆ๐๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐ด๐ผ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ถ๐ป๐ฑ๐ถ๐ด๐ฒ๐ป๐ผ๐๐!
As part of the Junior Suite renovations, most exotic plants and trees are being replaced with carefully selected indigenous South African plants, including:

๐ฑHedge Freylinia
๐ฑAristea
๐ฑWild Garlic
๐ฑJasminum multipartum
These plants support bees, butterflies and other pollinators while creating a more natural, resilient and biodiversity-friendly landscape. The result will be 100% indigenous planting in these areas โ a garden that belongs to its environment and supports the wildlife that calls Kievits Kroon home.
Because sustainability isn't just about what we save. It's about what we choose to grow.
