The present day Punch Bowl Inn is a luxury Lake District hotel that offers a unique blend of old and new, providing a relaxed mixture of excellent food, comfortable interiors, good beers and wines in a stunning rural location. The Punch Bowl Inn is situated in the heart of the delightfully unspoilt Lyth Valley at Crosthwaite in Cumbria, alongside the Parish Church of St Mary's. We offer a classic, contemporary style, 2AA rosette formal restaurant and a traditional pub menu in our bar. The same menu being served in both. We are open all year round and our nine rooms are luxurious and individually styled - many with views over the surrounding countryside. All rooms have spacious bathrooms with Bath House toiletries. Our rates include complimentary afternoon tea on arrival.

It's officially long walk and cosy pub season. If you're out on the fells or the lanes around the Lyth Valley this half term, the bar is open all day, the fire is lit and dogs are welcome in the bar right through autumn and winter.

You don't need to book for a drink, and muddy boots, wet dogs and damp coats are all welcome. Tag whoever you're walking with this weekend.

Game season is here. Ours comes from Cartmel Valley Game, alongside produce grown at Mirk Howe Farm, so what lands on the plate this month tastes properly of the Lake District in autumn.

There's a particular kind of quiet in the Lyth Valley at this time of year, with mist first thing, the damson trees turning and a fire going in the bar by the time you're back from a walk.

We're about five miles from Windermere and Bowness and five from Kendal, so we're easy to fit into a day in the Lakes. Come for a pint after a walk, stay for lunch, or make a night of it with dinner and a room upstairs.

The best days here have no plan to speak of.

A wander through the countryside, blackberries in the hedge, a drink on the terrace, and a whole afternoon stretching out ahead with nowhere in particular to be. It's the version of the Lakes we'd send everyone to.
