At ‘The Cottage in the Wood’ our philosophy towards our food is to use the best possible produce we can and to combine seasonal ingredients to create simple and appealing meals. The starting point is our suppliers who are knowledgeable and have long established links with farmers and growers. They are our eyes and ears and regularly come up with something special for us to use in the kitchen. Our Chef Director, Ben Wilkinson, was awarded a Michelin star in 2019.

👋 Meet our Assistant General Manager! Many of you have already had the pleasure, as Neil joined us in June, learning the ropes and taking over the reigns.
🌍 He brings over 20 years of hospitality experience, working worldwide across London, NYC, Hong Kong and Amsterdam and across hotels, restaurants, bars and members’ clubs, including Soho House, W Hotels, The Social Company and A’DAM Toren, to name a few…

🍸 Starting as an (award-winning!) bartender, he’s built his career by opening venues, building teams and shaping great service.

We are so delighted to work with Neil. We’ve already had a fantastically busy summer together and can’t wait to see his journey unfold with us.

Some big news here from The Cottage. A fond farewell to a very familiar face…

Many of you will have been welcomed by our wonderful Restaurant Manager, Joel Pennington. With his infectious smile and warm hospitality, Joel has practically become part of the furniture since he joined us two and a half years ago. Starting as our sommelier, he quickly stepped up to lead the dining room through two incredibly busy, eventful, and successful years. He has won award after award—both for us and personally—and we could not be prouder of him.

We hope you’ll all join us in wishing him the absolute best on his next grand adventure: helping to open an exciting new hotel in London! We will definitely be raising a glass (or three!) of English sparkling wine to toast his final day with us on Saturday, August 22nd. 🥂

We’re happy to announce that last week Beth has
for the third consecutive year earned national recognition, securing a place in the Taylor’s Port UK
Top 100 Sommeliers List, at number 49. Having first entered the rankings in 2024, Beth has
maintained her place in the top 50 for a second year in a row.
The list, which has grown in prestige since its launch four years ago, recognises the very best
sommelier talent working across the country today.

We were thrilled to be invited to top 100 party on Monday. A list that and have had their hearts set on since buying The Cottage. Expecting to be placed pretty high, we were over joyed when we were announced as number 62!!

But what took us by absolute surprise was winning the Best Service Award! A huge honour that we have loved bringing home to share with everyone in our team.

A massive thank you to all of the cottage crew, past and present, our guests that make our job so fun, and for putting us forward.

It’s a dream come true!

A bitter sweet goodbye to forced rhubarb season, but that means summer is just around the corner!
We’re currently working on something special so what this space!
For now, it’s so ling to the Rhubarb baked Alaska. You’ve been a firm favourite, so you’ll probably be back!

Monkfish, pumpkin, kumquat, Cafe de Paris sauce

Those eagle eyed fans will have seen the Cafe De Paris sauce on his fish course - You Shall Not Bass. A powerful butter sauce made with paprika, lemon, tomato, and a dash of hot sauce. It’s a perfect 10 from us!
