Our wonderful stonemason Tyrone has been hard at work rebuilding the old window cills and carefully filling in the holes left behind by the original ventilation systems.

What makes this work particularly special is that we’re reusing the original red sandstone removed from other parts of the house where we’ve created new doorways.

Rather than bringing in new stone, we’re giving the original sandstone a second life, keeping as much of the building’s history and character as possible.

It’s painstaking work, but these are the little details that make all the difference when restoring a building like The Seymour.

👻 Is The Seymour haunted? 👻

We’ve now had over 100 people get in touch claiming they’ve seen ghosts wandering the corridors of The Seymour over the years!

We’ve always been a little sceptical. After all, it’s an old building with plenty of creaky floorboards and mysterious noises!

However, while checking the security cameras this morning, we did spot something rather unusual at 4am… 👀

We’re not jumping to conclusions, but our mysterious gentleman looks like he’s been here considerably longer than us!

We’ve no issue with him staying, but if he’s wandering around at 4am, the least he could do is pick up a paint scraper and help with the renovations! 😂

More progress with the windows at The Seymour!

It might look like we’re simply popping a few new windows in, but the reality is a much bigger undertaking!

Each window involves carefully removing all the original timber panelling, ensuring the new window is perfectly aligned with the surrounding stonework, and then painstakingly putting everything back together.

We’re also taking the opportunity to strip decades of old paint from the original panelling before giving it a fresh coat of paint and bringing it back to its former glory.

It’s a huge amount of work, particularly with 51 windows to replace, but we firmly believe that if something is worth doing, it’s worth doing properly!

Another painstaking but worthwhile part of bringing The Seymour back to life!

Another productive day at The Seymour, with more of our beautiful new sash and case windows being installed!

We absolutely love the contrast between the crisp white paintwork and the original red sandstone. It really brings out the character of this wonderful Victorian building.

A very exciting day on site!

Today sees the return of our beautiful original stained glass windows following a full refurbishment, including repairs and replacement of damaged glass.

We’ve been incredibly fortunate to have one of Scotland’s leading stained glass artists based locally, who has carefully restored these wonderful features. She has also kindly agreed to create a special commissioned piece for our entrance door to commemorate The Seymour’s restoration!

The team at Leuchars Glazing are helping us reinstall the windows today.

We’ll share some photos of the finished results later today!

We’re planning a beautiful bespoke timber log store to sit neatly between the end of our new pump room and the newly built boundary wall.

We want something that complements The Seymour’s Victorian character, with traditional timber detailing and a lead roof.

But we have a decision to make, and we’d love your thoughts!

Option A – Pitched roof with green slates

Option B – Flat lead roof

🏡 Keeping the Cold Out at Seymour!

Our latest big job at Seymour is insulating absolutely every inch of the building!

One thing we really hate is a beautiful old house that’s freezing cold in winter! As much as we love the Victorian character and charm, we certainly don’t want the Victorian temperatures to go with it! 🥶

We’re going to extraordinary lengths to make sure Seymour is as warm, comfortable and energy-efficient as possible, without compromising its original character.

It’s a huge job, and much of the work will never be seen once the walls and ceilings are finished, but it’s one of the most important investments we’ll make.

All the charm of 1898, with the comfort of 2026! 🏡
