A big part of our focus just now is the complete refurbishment and re-roofing of the old granny annex.

This is a much larger job than it might first appear. The structure needs significant work, and we’re investing a lot of time and effort into making sure it doesn’t look like an afterthought. Our goal is to tie it seamlessly into the main Seymour building, using traditional materials and details that respect the character of the house.

Over the coming months you’ll see new roofing, stonework improvements, and plenty of finishing touches that will help this part of the property feel as though it has always belonged here.

You may also notice a different voice in today’s video update! We sent our dad, Rod, down to site to give you all a progress report while we were tied up elsewhere. We think he did a pretty good job, so a big thank you to Rod for stepping in as Seymour’s guest commentator for the day!

What do you think of the progress so far?

One of our followers kindly sent us this fleeting glimpse of The Seymour as they crossed the Tay Bridge this week.

It’s amazing to think how far this old building has come in such a short space of time. From the bridge, you can now really start to appreciate the scale of the restoration work taking place, with the roof, stonework and external repairs all beginning to transform the building once again.

We’re curious... have you spotted The Seymour recently while crossing the bridge? If so, let us know in the comments, or better yet, share your photos with us. We’d love to see the building from your perspective.

Sometimes you need to step away from the dust, scaffolding and endless restoration jobs and remind yourself why you’re doing it all.

After a busy day at The Seymour, we took a wander down to the little beach at the bottom of our garden. Standing here looking out across the Tay, it’s impossible not to feel incredibly lucky.

One day the stonework will be finished, the roofs repaired and the gardens complete, but views like this are what make The Seymour truly special. Having this beautiful stretch of shoreline quite literally on our doorstep is something we’ll never take for granted.

Not a bad place to end the working day.

This room will become the nerve centre of The Seymour.

Behind all the history and Victorian charm, there will be plenty of modern technology keeping everything running smoothly. This office will allow us to monitor and manage the Wi-Fi, door access systems, cameras, heating controls, and all the other systems that keep a building of this size operating efficiently.

🚛 A special delivery arrived at The Seymour today!

We took delivery of 30 original cast iron radiators, beautifully restored by the team at Hendersons Metal Cleaning in Edinburgh.

Each radiator has been stripped, cleaned, tested and refinished, ready for a new chapter in this building's story. While modern alternatives would have been easier, we felt it was important to preserve as much of The Seymour's original character as possible.

It's fantastic to see these Victorian radiators ready to provide warmth once again after all these years.

A little update on the staircase at The Seymour.

We’re absolutely delighted with how it’s turned out. After months of careful restoration, it’s starting to look like the grand centrepiece it was always meant to be. It’s amazing how much character has been revealed as the work has progressed.

What do you think? If you want to details of who did the work for us, comment - STAIR - We will then DM you their number.

As we continue stripping back the building, we have uncovered one of the original sandstone walls in what will become a new bathroom. It’s amazing to think this stone has been hidden away for decades and is now seeing the light of day again.

Now comes the big question… do we leave the beautiful original sandstone exposed as a feature wall and celebrate the building’s history, or do we frame it out and sheet over it for a cleaner, more modern finish?

We are really torn on this one. There is something incredibly special about keeping these original features visible, especially in a building that has stood proudly since 1898.

What would you do? Keep the stone bare and make it a feature, or cover it up and create a smooth finish?

A few people have been asking what’s happening with the driveway, so here’s a quick update!

Hopefully, it should be finished next week. The main reason for creating it now is to give us access to the bottom of the garden for heavy machinery. Once that’s in place, we can finally start tackling that part of the property and making some real progress.

Like everything at The Seymour, it’s all about laying the groundwork for the next stage of the restoration. One step at a time!

A bit of a different view of The Seymour today.

Most of our updates focus on the building itself, but when you take a step back and look at the setting, it’s easy to remember why we fell in love with this place in the first place. The views down here are simply incredible and change with every season.

Restoring a building like this is a huge undertaking, but moments like this remind us why it’s all worth it. We genuinely love it down here and can’t wait to share more of The Seymour’s journey with you all.
