We’ve noticed a lot of fresh faces around here lately! A huge thank you to everyone who has recently hit that follow button - I’m so glad to have you join our community.

I’m Emma. With over 30 years of background in care work and as a qualified Forest School leader, I created our off-grid shepherd's hut The Solace by Emma Cares retreat and Grounded by the Wild outdoor workshops in our Perthshire woodland. My passion is blending nature connection, gentle wellbeing, and outdoor learning to offer a peaceful space to pause and recharge.

Forget Saturday Kitchen with James Martin... this is Thursday Glamping Kitchen at The Solace! 🍳🔥

Proof that you don’t need a fully fitted kitchen to create something delicious. Allan put our simple camping stove to the test, rustling up a tasty chicken dish boosted with a generous splash of Allan's Chilli Products 🌶

Whether it's a quick camp-stove supper or a leisurely alfresco lunch on the deck surrounded by autumn colour, it just goes to show what you can easily cook up during a stay here.

Safe to say it got a big thumbs up, clean plates all round! 🍂✨

Look who showed up to check out the bat box at The Solace! 🦇✨

Throwback to last Halloween when our favorite little bat took on the donut-on-a-string challenge right out on the decking! 🍩🎃 Mavis (our resident plush bat) was thrilled to have such a fierce, cute helper keeping watch over the hut.

Keep your eyes on the evening skies next time you stay, you never know what wonderful wild (or spooky!) friends you’ll spot at dusk! 🌲🌙

Our red squirrels at The Solace are in their absolute busiest season! 🐿️🍂

As autumn deepens, they're working around the clock to prep for winter. Since red squirrels don't hibernate, this hustle is all about survival.

Here are a few fascinating fun facts about our favourite local neighbours:

🌲 Accidental Tree Planters: They cache (bury) thousands of nuts for winter. They rely on memory and smell to find them, but forget plenty, planting brand, new trees across the woodland every year!

🕵️ Built-in Quality Control: They can instantly tell if a hazelnut is a "dud" just by weighing it in their paws to check for weevil hollows.

🐿️ Master Acrobats: Their bushy tails act as rudders and parachutes, helping them make massive 6.5-foot leaps across the canopy.

🪓 Never-Ending Teeth: To crack tough cones and nuts, they gnaw constantly, meaning their front teeth never stop growing all life long!

🏠 Multiple Backup Homes: A single squirrel builds and maintains several ball-shaped nests called dreys, easily moving to a backup if a predator gets too close.

💬 Tail Talk: That twitching tail isn't just for balance; it's how they signal alarm or territorial warning to other squirrels nearby.
