It's so mild at the moment, but they obviously think there's cause for concern. So sorry for the people looking forward to this event. 😞

Important information: Illuminated Whitby Abbey has been cancelled this weekend due to severe weather! 🌧️⚠️

English Heritage has announced that Illuminated Whitby Abbey will not go ahead this weekend (23–25 October) due to severe weather conditions associated with Storm Austen and Storm Boelo.

The popular Halloween event was due to begin tonight, but organisers have confirmed all three evenings this weekend are cancelled, and daytime access to Whitby Abbey is also affected.

📅 Updated opening arrangements:

Friday 23 October
* Whitby Abbey open as normal during the day.
* Illuminated Whitby Abbey CANCELLED.

Saturday 24 October
* Whitby Abbey open during the day until 2pm.
* Illuminated Whitby Abbey CANCELLED.

Sunday 25 October
* Whitby Abbey CLOSED all day.
* Illuminated Whitby Abbey CANCELLED.

🎟️ Information for ticket holders

Anyone who pre-booked tickets for the cancelled Illuminated Whitby Abbey evenings will automatically receive a full refund within 10 working days. There is no need to contact English Heritage or take further action.

English Heritage says the decision was not taken lightly, but the safety of visitors, staff and volunteers must come first.

Organisers will reassess the situation on Monday morning (26 October) and provide a further update regarding next week’s planned events.

Stay safe, everyone! ❤️
