Well, this has made our week! 🌿

We’re absolutely delighted to see Kaya featured in Country & Town House, with a rather lovely review of life here at Blackhill Farm.

From hiking across the hills to reach us, to moonlit baths, homemade pizzas, stargazing and cosy nights by the fire, writer Isabel Dempsey experienced a little bit of everything we love about Kaya.

But it was one particular line that really made us smile: “I haven’t felt peace like this in a long time.”

And honestly, that’s exactly what we hope everyone takes away from a stay with us.

Ever stood on top of a hill, looked out at the world and suddenly felt that the things weighing on your mind weren’t quite so enormous?
That’s awe. And it turns out there’s some rather interesting science behind it.

Researchers at the University of California found that people who deliberately looked for moments of awe during short weekly walks experienced more joy, more positive feelings towards others and less everyday distress over time.

The idea is that awe helps us step outside our own thoughts and feel connected to something bigger. And the best bit? You don’t need to do anything particularly extraordinary to experience it.

Try this on your next walk:

🌿 Slow down and leave your phone in your pocket.
🌿 Look for something vast, beautiful or surprising.
🌿 Pay attention to the details you’d usually walk straight past.
🌿 Give yourself a moment to simply take it all in.

Here at Kaya, we’re lucky enough to have the Black Mountains on our doorstep. And whether you’re heading up Cat’s Back or just watching the clouds move across the valley, there are plenty of opportunities to feel a little awe.

Sometimes feeling small is exactly what we need.

We might be biased, but we think autumn days at Kaya are hard to beat. 🍁

Mornings where you don’t rush to get up because you’ve the fire lit and a good book to read. Then, when the time’s right, pulling on a jumper and heading out for a walk. Arriving back with muddy boots and a face flushed with the fresh mountain air. Running a hot outdoor bath and deciding it’s time to pour a glass of something special from the w**e list in your cabin.

Simple things, but worth their weight in wellness gold. When did you last have a whole day for them?

The best days start with your boots on, not your car keys.
At Kaya, you can head out hiking straight from your door, with the Cat’s Back right nearby and the Black Mountains ready to give your legs a proper workout.

Make a day of it. Pack lunch, take the scenic route and stop whenever the view deserves it. Then come back to somewhere comfortable, pull off your boots and put the kettle on. There’s a particular satisfaction in spending the evening looking towards the hills you’ve just walked.

Karen chose a weekend at Kaya when she realised she needed some stillness. She slept, walked, journalled and watched parts of the day unfold from bed.

But the bit that really stayed with us? She didn’t feel guilty about taking things at her own pace. That’s what we hope you’ll find here: somewhere you feel comfortable doing exactly as much, or as little, as you need. Reading that Karen found it made us feel proud of what we’re creating, and very grateful to be able to share it.
